Water water nowhere…

hot summer ride

Go out on a bike trip and you will have to protect yourself against the harsh sun. The title can be read as water water no-where.

But wait. Let me come to the topic, have you read the newspaper of 26th march? The head-line was “Thane, Mulund Flooded”.

FLOODED? Yes flooded with water from a pipeline burst. This pipeline, 80, E-I-G-H-T-Y years old is still being used to supply water to the so called metropolitan, financial capital of India. Where are we heading? And no doubt, these pipes are still being and will be used.

.
SUCH UNFORTUNE 😦

On one hand people are trying to get conscious about saving water and on the other such unfortunate incidents keep happening all around. The water wastage was reported to be about

TWENTY-LAC litres!! 20,00000Litres. FUCK! fuck!! What you have to say?

Water Waste

pipe burst

At present, the water content in the lakes supplying the city is 4.57 million litres as opposed to 6 million litres last year.

Why can’t I blame anybody for them? Why can’t I find anybody directly responsible for these incidents? It’s no less than a heart-break…
.
.
.
REASON

The article presents the reason that the valves on the eastern and western pipelines from the TANSA Lake couldn’t be shut down during the maintenance work and so the immense pressure resulted in burst. There were in all 5 valves to be shut off. After shutting down three valves the fourth was unable to shut down and hence due to immense pressure from this line led to the burst.

Conquered!

And there are reasons for every rupture. But one of the prime cause I think is the century-old pipes. The Britishers had laid them and since never been replaced. Don’t you think the people who serve the area should have done some of their job?

Moreover you might have heard that the areas from where these pipes were laid is actually CONQUERED by the slums. And they are extracting water as much as they wish. This may be the second cause.

SITUATION: like the Mumbai floods!

You will see the pics and it will actually remind you about the 25th july flooding incident. The rescue workers had those thick ropes tied across so that the people from the other side can safely cross the roads, the flowing water had such a force to it! The water had also entered two of the buildings and the occupants had to be evacuated.

The incident occurred on 25th in cooper-bavdi, an area not much inhabited. Hence there were no casualties reported. But that fact remains…20 lac litre of drinking water wasted!

This is a major incident just after the six-foot-diameter pipe burst in Bhiwandi just a week before.

DID YOU KNOW?

A recent Right To Information (RTI) query revealed that there were as many as 1,031 cases of pipe bursts or leaks in 2009, draining the city of millions of litres of water.

In fact, the BMC reported about three cases of burst or leaking pipes every day in 2009!! The biggest burst last year was in May, when a pipe at Lalbaug ruptured while the flyover there was being constructed. This year, there was a major pipeline burst at Nana Chowk in Grant Road.

Engineers at work

.
.
.
WHAT ENGINEERS SAY

The engineers say they will have to drain out the entire line and wait for it to completely dry up to properly weld the damage!!

There you go. More wastage:(

So that means you can also interpret the title as water water now-here…but of no use.

What do you think? and whom do you Blame? Please have your say…
